Fall/Halloween Moody Invitation Inspiration

Untitled-1.png

An entire month of fall is dedicated to celebrating Halloween. While traditionally we don’t necessarily put Halloween and weddings on the same page, there are many people who either combine the events or draw inspiration from the holiday! We decided to seek out some of our favorite moody invitation sets perfect for your festive Halloween wedding or just a more traditional fall event.

We love these deep, rich colors for more than just a spooky feel. They pull strings of romance, emotion, and mystery. Dark, muted tones combined with elements of stark while really give a lovely contrast that we can’t help but love!

Fall Bridal Fashion

Untitled-1.png

Bridal style is something that changes frequently between trends, styles, and season. We’ve gathered up some of our favorite style images for this fall season, many of which are timeless fall classics that you’re sure to love for years on end.

Cooler weather is the perfect excuse for longer sleeves! We are swooning over ¾ or full length sleeves, especially in lace! This classic look is so elegant and just overall stunning. There is a never-ending variety of patterns and textures within the lace family, still giving your dress a unique feel. Trends are showing that backless or low-V backed dresses are a huge hit when combined with lace sleeves. But if that’s too much for you or just not your style, we are loving the off-the-shoulder look!

For someone looking to avoid the sleeve trend all together but still looking to stay cozy and warm, we have some ideas for you too! This is the perfect weather to layer on a jean jacket, blanket scarf, or flannel. All of these accessories are easily removed during your ceremony to let your dress be the star, and then added back on to snuggle up for the rest of the evening!

Cinnamon Apple Rose Tarts

header.jpg

We’ve all enjoyed a romantic homemade dinner followed by a mouthwatering dessert we are too full to relish. So, to remedy this tragic circumstance, we are providing you with a light dessert that you’ll definitely have room for. These cinnamon apple rose tarts are beautiful, scrumptious, and, most importantly, easy to make! Serve the tarts à la mode if you want a touch more sweetness. They also make great desserts for a casual dinner party since they are individual and easily portable. For those of you who are gluten free, we incorporated GF options for gluten-containing ingredients!

Servings: 6                Approximate Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:
2 apples (Braeburn, Cortland, and Honeycrisp are great options)
1-2 sheets of thawed puff pastry (Gluten Free: Genius brand)
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Half a bowl plus 2 tbsp. Water
Flour, any kind if GF, for rolling out dough if sticky
3 tbsp. of preserves, we used apricot
Cinnamon
Powdered sugar (optional), for decoration

Directions:
Thaw puff pastry to room temperature.
Place rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 375°F.
Prepare apples:
Fill a small microwaveable bowl halfway with water and the lemon juice.
Cut apples in half, remove the core, and thinly slice (leave skin on for the red rose color).
Place apple slices in the bowl of water and lemon juice and microwave for about 3 minutes until soft enough to bend but not break.
Drain and pat dry apple slices.
Prepare puff pastry:
Roll out puff pastry, on floured surface if sticky, into a rectangle (about 12 x 9in).
Cut into 6 strips (about 9 x 2 in).
In a microwaveable bowl, mix preserves and 2 tbsp. of water and heat so the mixture is thin enough to spread (about 1 minute).
Spread a thin layer of preserve on each puff pastry strip.

2.jpg

Arrange apple slices on the puff pastry, overlapping, and with skin side sticking out on top (the apples should cover about half of the top of the strip).
Sprinkle with cinnamon and fold the bottom half of strip up.

3.jpg

Starting at one end, roll pastry, keeping apples in place, and seal the ends by pressing with your fingers.
Place in greased muffin pan and bake for 40-45 minutes until the puff pastry is cooked throughout.*
Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

*If apples are burning or cooking too quickly, move the pan to a lower rack or loosely cover with aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes

Get Your Hands Dirty with a DIY

Can’t decide whose coffee table to put in the living room? Switch it up and create something new with a DIY project. We’re not saying to necessarily go out and start from scratch, but pick one of your current pieces or find something cheap that you can redo together. Even something as simple as sanding it down and choosing a new color to paint or stain can make a huge change. This gives you both a sense of accomplishment and ownership in the piece as well as a conversation starter!

Add Something New

Take the time to go out and pick something new to add to your home that you both like. It doesn’t have to be anything large or expensive, but just as putting both of your marks on something through a DIY, by buying something together, even as small as a clock, continues to help grow the feeling of mutual ownership. By picking items out together, or consulting each other before buying something yourself, you’re ensuring that both parties will be happy with the end result!

Compromise

At the end of the day, you’re creating this space together. Does he have a whole collection of gaming equipment but you like a nice clean space? Compromise with a larger entertainment center that can house his gaming things in a neat way without putting them in an inconvenient location. Are you both set in having your living room floor plan set up in completely different ways? Pull pieces of each plan to create something together.

Fall Wedding Guest Fashion

header.png

Finding the right outfit to wear as a guest to a wedding is no small feat! We all know the ageless rule of never wearing white to a wedding, but beyond that, there usually aren’t too many other guidelines to go off of. A change in season also means you most likely need to rotate into a new outfit from what you may have worn to any summer weddings. No fear, we’re here to help you pick the perfect fall wedding outfit to make you feel beautiful and confident!

color.png

We LOVE the colors of fall, and this is the perfect way to showcase them! We lean towards the deeper richer tones compared to the bright colors of summer. Think navy, burgundy, burnt orange, forest green, plum, and black. These colors are flexible for both day and evening weddings and are timeless, meaning you can re-wear them for years to come.

gradient.png

For fall, we like to stick with solid colors versus the bright, fun patterns of summer. This delivers a more crisp, warm feel and really allows the stunning colors to flourish!

style.png

Your outfit style depends on a number of factors: dress code, time of day, and what you’re comfortable with! That being said, there are many versatile styles that can transition between various scenarios. Some of our favorites are a little black dress, a classic cocktail dress, and a fresh new jumpsuit.

Little Black Dress

We never get sick of the little black dress! These beauties are the perfect staples that every woman should keep in her closet for times of need. It’s a low stress option that fits perfectly in almost any scenario.

Cocktail Dress

A cocktail dress is our favorite way to let those fall colors shine! We know that so many styles fall under this category, and that’s part of what we love about it. Look for a nice simple cut that flatters the figure and pair it with a statement piece necklace and earrings.

We love highlighting fresh and in-season food in our desserts, and these recipes combine sweet dessert elements with the spice and savory flavors of fall to produce the tastiest seasonal baked goods. Metallic Beauty Trends 2017

header.png

Of the many fall 2017 beauty trends, metallics is one of our favorites at Parsimony Inspired. Metallics can be bright and bold or subdued and neutral, so everyone can wear them no matter their style! We are going to show you the versatile ways to incorporate metallics into your personal beauty routine. And remember, makeup is fun and expressive, so don’t be afraid to try something new!

eyes.png

Metallic eyeshadow is the easiest way to integrate that little sparkle you crave in your makeup. You can keep it simple for the workday by swiping one color across your lid, or be bold by creating a sexy smokey eye for date night.

bold.png

For those of you who love color, use bright silver, green, or blue metallic shadows. They call attention to your beautiful eyes and show you are a confident woman who isn’t afraid of some color. To make sure the colors pop, we recommend cream shadows for more pigmentation. Don’t be afraid to mix and match metals for a more dynamic look! We love Inglot’s Aquastic Cream Eye Shadows. They are crease proof, smudge proof, and easy to apply!

low-key.png

If your personal style is natural and relaxed, or you want your makeup simplified for work, use neutral-toned metallics, like gold, bronze, and copper. (Try Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow; its warm brown sparkle looks amazing on any skin tone.) These metallics are closest to the neutral creams and browns you use everyday. Use the darker shade of your upper lid shadow across your lower lash line as an alternative to eyeliner. This softens the look and shows off your metallic shine at the same time.  Most of these metallic colors can already be found in your powder eye shadow palettes! Just remember to use a primer on your lids so the shadow stays on your eyes and doesn’t fall onto your cheeks.

*5 minute beauty tip: If you only have a limited time to put on your makeup and still want some metallic shimmer, just use a metallic eyeliner! It adds the pop of metallic color you want without the fuss of blending shadows. We love the Sephora Collection shimmer finish eyeliner pencils; they are affordable, come in a range of colors, and don’t smudge!

lips.png

If you want to make a statement with your makeup this fall consider metallic lipsticks! To really make your lips pop keep the rest of your makeup simple (think natural face, bold lip). Use metallic liquid lipsticks for long wear and brighter colors.

bold.png

You don’t have to lose your favorite bold colors when going metallic! Love the classic red lip? Try Smashbox Cosmetics’ Be Legendary Liquid Lip in Crimson Chrome. Look forward to the dark vampy colors of fall? Try Urban Decay’s Vice Liquid Lipsticks in colors Voodoo (purple) or Time (blue). If you want something completely different than your go-to colors try a silver or gold lip. Keep in mind silver compliments cool skin tones, whereas gold compliments warm skin tones.

low-key.png

Bronze toned lipsticks are the most natural and flattering of all metallic lipstick colors for any skin tone. The red and orange undertones give your lip a little color without overpowering the rest of your makeup. It is also guaranteed to go with any outfit you had in mind. Our pick is Smashbox Cosmetics’ Be Legendary Liquid Lip in Brains ‘N’ Bronze.

*5 minute beauty tip: Don’t have time to meticulously apply liquid lipstick but still want a metallic sheen?-- use a metallic gloss! M.A.C.’s Dazzleglass lipglosses lights up your lips and adds a pop of color. Wear one of their more pigmented gloss colors to add some vibrance to your look, or swipe some Dazzleglass in Pleasure Principle (a clear gloss with a pearl finish) on top of a matte finish lipstick to make create your own metallic!

Let us know how you get creative with your metallic beauty looks!

avocado-and-vit-e-hair-mask.png

Ingredients:

Avocado (about 1 cup)

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

1 Teaspoon Vitamin E Oil

1 Teaspoon Glycerin (Optional but great for extra moisture)

1 Shower Cap

Hair Mask.jpg

Directions:

Peel the avocado and remove the pit. Transfer to a bowl and mash it with a spoon or fork until a paste has been formed (chunks are okay)

Add your Olive Oil and Vitamin E oil (and Glycerin if you’re using it). Mix well.

Once all of your ingredients are combined take a whisk and blend everything together until a smooth creamy substance has formed. Slight chunks of avocado are okay but you want to get it as smooth as you can so it spreads through your hair easier.

Wash your hair and then towel dry to remove as much excess water as you can.

Apply the mask to your hair starting at the ends and working you way up (make sure to avoid your scalp).

Once the mask is applied, comb through your hair with a wide tooth comb to make sure everything is evenly distributed before wrapping everything up in a shower cap.

Allow your hair to absorb the mixture for at least 30 minutes or up to an hour.

Rinse and enjoy your soft, shiny hair!

2017 Summer Shoot Behind the Scenes

behind-the-scenes-header.png

This August, we snuck down to coastal Rhode Island to shoot our 2017 summer concept! We’re so excited about this look that we had to share some behind the scenes shots with you. Splitting our time between Mackerel Cove Beach and Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, RI, we teamed up with the extremely talented Melanie Zacek for photography and Dmitry Gordievsky of Embark Films for videography.

We’re so grateful to once again have partnered with DMG Noho for our flawless jewels!

As always, working with Flowers by Justine was an incredible experience. We always fall head over heels for her wonderful floral skills! New to our list, we were honored to be able to feature these spectacular custom dinner plates by Susan Gordon Pottery!

We had a wonderful day and a fabulous shoot despite some rain later in the day and we couldn’t be happier with the end result! We hope you enjoy this behind the scenes sneak peek and we cannot wait to share the full concept with you in the very near future!
