Get Your Hands Dirty with a DIY

Can’t decide whose coffee table to put in the living room? Switch it up and create something new with a DIY project. We’re not saying to necessarily go out and start from scratch, but pick one of your current pieces or find something cheap that you can redo together. Even something as simple as sanding it down and choosing a new color to paint or stain can make a huge change. This gives you both a sense of accomplishment and ownership in the piece as well as a conversation starter!

Add Something New

Take the time to go out and pick something new to add to your home that you both like. It doesn’t have to be anything large or expensive, but just as putting both of your marks on something through a DIY, by buying something together, even as small as a clock, continues to help grow the feeling of mutual ownership. By picking items out together, or consulting each other before buying something yourself, you’re ensuring that both parties will be happy with the end result!

Compromise

At the end of the day, you’re creating this space together. Does he have a whole collection of gaming equipment but you like a nice clean space? Compromise with a larger entertainment center that can house his gaming things in a neat way without putting them in an inconvenient location. Are you both set in having your living room floor plan set up in completely different ways? Pull pieces of each plan to create something together.
